It is important to note that you should never drain the fuel into an open container. Fuel should never be stored in an open container due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Instead, install the bleed hose of the SA9127E or the J 34730-1A into an approved fuel container. Open the bleed valve to bleed the fuel system pressure.

The fuel connections are now safe for servicing. Place a shop towel under the fuel pressure service port to catch any remaining fuel spillage. Disconnect the SA9127E or the J 34730-1A from the fuel pressure service port connection. Drain any remaining fuel in the gauge into an approved fuel container. Finally, install the cap back onto the fuel pressure service port.

Remove the fuel filter strap

To remove the fuel filter strap of a Saturn Ion, you will need to first place the car jack in front of the passenger side rear wheel well on the chassis. Crank up the jack enough to slide the jack stand below the Saturn Ion under the chassis. Lower the Ion onto the jack stand and place wheel blocks around the opposite wheel.

Next, close off the two hoses attached to the nozzles of the fuel filter with hose pliers to prevent fuel spurting in your face or on your clothes. Set out some paper towels below the filter to catch any fuel that drips out of the hoses when you remove them.
